Dear Sarah
Reflecting on another busy year, the highlight for me was certainly the SACS Music Concert Band Tour.
It is hard to sum up a most incredible experience in one ‘Thank you’ letter. A travel experience for a teenager is a tremendous event in their lives. One thing is clear, the learners, aged 13-18, have matured immensely and have returned to their parents as changed individuals. The opportunity you have created for the learners to experience your hospitality and music has awoken them to new perspectives and opened their eyes to a new world view.
The majority of South African school learners will not experience the opportunity afforded to the 63 learners on tour, to learn formal music, play in a band or leave their communities to travel – it is rare for a South African Band or orchestra to travel abroad! I can assure you that the learners do not take this privilege for granted. They cannot stop reminiscing about the tour and do so with great pride, joy and affection.
From when I first heard from Cultour that you would be our tour guide, I knew we were in good hands. Thank you for so warmly answering my emails and calls, for the thorough arrangements and communications, for always accommodating us and any changes, for communicating with the European hosts, managing our budget so carefully and ensuring the most incredibly smooth tour experience. I know it wasn’t always easy working with 63 boys and exhausted staff members – Thank you for always being so patient and understanding!
The learners had a most fantastic tour from Munich, through Unterwössen and Salzburg to Schladming. They performed incredibly well at the Mid Europe Windband Festival. All learners landed safely and exhausted in Cape Town, and although we had several instruments seriously damaged by Turkish Airlines, our hearts were aglow with fond memories of our experiences.
We have been so privileged to travel under your guidance. We wish you both and your family all the very best for 2025.
My heart is filled with profound gratitude for your excellent service to us.
Sincerely, Levi Alexander
